| JOB DESCRIPTION: This position is an opportunity for a dynamic, accomplished mid-career or senior scientist to lead the Science Program of one of the largest, newest ecosystem restoration programs in the U.S. The Puget Sound Partnership is a state agency that develops, coordinates, and tracks a broad collaborative strategy supported by state and federal agencies, Indian tribes, local governments, and concerned citizens to protect and recover Puget Sound habitats and its terrestrial, freshwater, and marine biota. The Science Director and staff collaborate with scientists from academia, state and federal agencies, Indian tribes, and nongovernmental organizations to provide scientific foundations and tools for developing, evaluating, and adapting the recovery strategy. The Science Director works with the Executive Director and policy staffs to ensure that Partnership councils and boards are integrating science into decisions; coordinates a broad, stakeholder-based ecosystem monitoring program; guides refinement of adaptive management tools and structures; collaborates with performance management and communications staffs to analyze and report progress on recovery; and represents the Partnership at national and international science conferences and forums. The Partnership encourages close relationships between the Science Director and the University of Washington and other universities, including the possibility of adjunct appointments. The Partnership will consider applicants for Science Director available through interagency agreements. The position search will remain open until a sufficient pool of candidates is established.
